This is my next big project. I want to put together a home automation system, which will enable me to control certain functions of my house, both automatically and via a remote interface, probably web based.
I will be using the Ubuntu box I recently put together. The main component of the system will be a Vellman USB interface board. This will be used to configure a coding chip which will be connected to a radio transmitter, which will send codes to devices the corresponding devices will only be trigered if a unique ID code is receive by them, put simply, it will be like your electric gate and remote, it only opens your gate and not all the gates in the neighborhood. I have a lot of radio transmitters and receivers and a couple of PIR sensors to detect motion for some input into the system. I will also be adding a Temperature sensor or two and maybe even a couple of webcams.
