@Alwyn, That is an awesome idea one with so much less effort, and it can serve a dual purpose! To be able to browse the net and watch TV on the same box.

@n002213f I used a normal dsd900 or something decoder worked great, I got the remote with the tv tuner really a nice high end piece of kit. I was able to record live TV pause and replay. because the decoder only has 1 tuner, you cannot view and record simultaneous live feeds, you can however watch recoded media and the live feed that is busy recording. You can also schedule recordings via an on-line interface, stream Live stream to any network connected pc, running the myth front end. It was awesome.

You may have noticed I said was, I decommissioned the box and it was born a new fileserver, I am now in the process of buying a dedicated media player and NAS combination watch out for more on that soon...

Thanks for the guide, looking forward to do the same. A few questions, which decoder where you using, normal, PVR, HD (sorry i don't know them precisely but appreciate they are varieties)? Where did you get you remote? Where able to get recording channels working, record one while you watch another?

How about using a wireless mouse (and keyboard) instead of a remote? I'm typing this on a Philips SPT5701BC keyboard on Ubuntu 10.04 (lucid) and mouse and keyboard works out of the box! (No complicated Terminal commands) This wireless setup operates on 2.4 Ghz and got a 10m range!! Best of all: it sells for under R600.
