I discovered twitter awhile back and I must say it is growing on me. I know I am behind, twitter has been around for awhile! Twitter is as, Nicholas Carr, Author and Technologist put it; “…the telegraph system of Web 2.0.” and it truly is! Think of facebook’s, is “…” on your profile, you know that place where you put in what you are doing and other people see stuff like “John is planning world domination” or “Sara is doing homework”. Twitter can be described as, facebook minus everything except those little “is messages” and people love it!

Dropbox is a new online storage service/application which looks like it has loads of potential. Currently in beta testing phase it looks very promising! In the recent months, I have been trying to cope with the constant attack of malware on all of my (windows) home pc’s. Feeling like I am figthing a war, trying to protect the users of the systems. Most of the times I needed to manually “remove” the infection from the PC’s because the anti-virus program, does not believe the infection is of a viral kind, this is like a Doctor telling a patient, hmm I can see nothing wrong with you, the blood pouring from your eyes is not a symptom of any known illness or virus, it is sure to clear up in a day or three. I think I will just ignore it…

Got Dosbox today, It’s brilliant! Brings back so much memories of all the old games I used to play when I was young! For the people who don’t know what DosBox is, it is a x86 dos emulator, which enables you to run old dos based applications and games!
Ok so I tried a little American slang there, I know, I know!
Anyway StatBar is actually what this post is about. It is a very cool tool! It is a customizable little bar that sits on your desktop and gives you various stats on your Pc’s current workings.
Mine sits right above my task bar and shows uptime, Ram usage , Cpu usage, Network traffic, drive info, volume control and a time synch button.
You want it trust me, famous last words? Nah you really want this little free app!
I have been using Kaspresky Internet Security 6.0, for about a month now and it’s great. I love the interface , the way you are only told the important stuff ( If you didn’t choose the advanced or interactive mode or what ever it is called during the setup phase.) and the footprint is very small you are hardly ever aware of any activity from it’s side. Scanning is very efficient ( it did take about 13 hours to scan my entire drive, but I have a 250Gb drive in this pc which is at about 90% capacity!) Some times, some “Threats†get identified which are not threats at all ( ala USA
), for example my dev cpp uses make.exe and every single time i build a project ( which happens allot! ) I get the most annoying screech sound and a pop up telling me that there is a new rootkit threat!
Auto updates are great, but it has become standard on even the free virus scanners. The Firewall is very solid! It detects specific intuitions and neutralizes them, (the other day some sod tried to exploit my, mysql! got his IP and will maybe do some sniffing, {Insert evil laugh here} ) I also use the Nvidia firewall integrated with my N-force 4 chipset. Kaspersky and NVgaurd plays nicely together, like all good boys should.
For only $59.95 a year its definitely a good investment!
PS: Choose the novice user option in the setup process! Do it! You have been warned!
