Yet another late night for me, I have most of the software sorted out now, and my setup is running semi-usable. I got the TV guide working and integrated, it works great, I can see what is showing when with synopsis and some other meta-data and I can even schedule recordings from a web interface and afterwords download or stream it, I don’t have the streaming working yet, but the functionality is there. My next mission which took up most of last night was, trying to get the IR Blaster, aka transmitter working.
I am busy working on a project where I need to control a device via a computer, the interface is not at all complicated, I need to basically control 2 potentiometers, to tweak the function of the device. Potentiometers are used in many products, for such things as volume or frequency, controls or any other analogue input. A potentiometer or variable resistor, can change its resistance according to the position of the turning knob.
Finally got my home automation / security project under way. Bought myself an IP Cam, and wrote a quick php frontend. Now I can monitor my house remotely from work!

I will be getting the first shipment of components today. So Hopefully I will be able to start on some of my projects by this weekend. First will be the home automation system, them the psp keyboard. But before all that i will be building a development and programming board for the micro-controllers I ordered, because the micros will be the core of most of my future projects.
This is my next big project. I want to put together a home automation system, which will enable me to control certain functions of my house, both automatically and via a remote interface, probably web based.
Well I have been a Fan of Ubuntu for some years now and I have been running it on and of for a while now. I still have to use windows, because I am a C# developer by day and for the libs we use and the development we do @ work Mono won’t cut it, so my Notebook is windows only. I used a virtual machine and emulated Ubuntu on it with great success in the past and before I sold my Desktop, it had Ubuntu 6X running very nicely. A week or so ago I got some old PC gear from my uncle, I decided this would be it, I would install Ubuntu 7.10 and experience the joys of open source once again! (Well actually open source powers my home network, with a IPCOP box for ADSL access and firewalling, and a Ubuntu server ed box, for hosting my home’s homepage.
I owe allot to Open source, and Mark. )
