I just received the serial/remote port connections I ordered. This was the last piece of hardware I needed to complete my psp keyboard interface. I might be able to release the first version after this weekend! Stay tuned for pictures and progress report.

Rediscovering the PSP-SDK

PSP No Comments »

I am in the process of setting up the psp-sdk so that I can start the coding of my ps/2 Keyboard-psp interface, while I wait for some hardware to arrive.

It is actually so much easier now to get everything up and running, then it was back in the day, just get the toolchain script execute in a shell et violas or get cygwin if you find a windows based machine next to you, under that big rock you find yourself under. ;)

Components expected today.

I will be getting the first shipment of components today. So Hopefully I will be able to start on some of my projects by this weekend. First will be the home automation system, them the psp keyboard. But before all that i will be building a development and programming board for the micro-controllers I ordered, because the micros will be the core of most of my future projects.

More input?!

I haven’t even started the development of my PS/2 -> IR -> PSP Interface, and I have a revision to the idea, well maybe an addition, or even a supplicant. USB keyboard - > Psp via serial or Ir. Ok just a quick post…

Psp Ir keybord, project with a twist.

So I haven’t been posting anything about the PSP in awhile, the favorite of all my gadgets! So the best way to make it right is to start a project. I am in the process of designing an Ir interface for the psp, I am still in the planning phase but this is what I had in mind:

  • A small pic based device
  • With an Ir interface, obviously
  • A PS/2 Keyboard interface

I think you get the idea? ;)

If you are a bit slow, hehe, I had some trouble trying to get a decent compatible IR keyboard, so I started to think of an universal interface.
Picture this you have a psp you want to use nice homebrew apps like irc ssh vnc, and the like, but you don’t like trying to type with an OSK (on screen keyboard), you’ve heard of the fantastic libraries that can enable you to use a pda’s IR keyboard you think GREAT!! But wait Jim you don’t have one. But you have a normal PS/2 keyboard?

Ok enough with the sarcasm, watch this space for more…

Dosbox, nostalgia!

Apps, PSP, Ubuntu 1 Comment »

Got Dosbox today, It’s brilliant! Brings back so much memories of all the old games I used to play when I was young! For the people who don’t know what DosBox is, it is a x86 dos emulator, which enables you to run old dos based applications and games!

Recorder.

Got myself a very nice piece of kit recently. It’s a Magnetox V120 Recorder. It’s a small ( Mac-mini-look-alike) device capable of recording video from a direct video source or a coax output. It is a very nice alternative to the DSTV PVR recorder.

PSP and homebrew, an update.

PSP No Comments »

From the first firmware capable of running homebrew (v1.00 and later 1.50)  sony has continued to release firmware updates for the PSP which strengthen security, so that users couldn’t run unsigned or homebrewed applications.

At one stage I had thought that I will never be able to run homebrew apps on my factory 2.5 psp, well until some exploits were found and then some more, I was soon running v1.50 and enjoying all the pleasures of homebrew on the psp!

Today I am proud to say that my psp is running a custom version of 3.03 which fully allows homebrew ISO loading of games and original playstaion one games!

Just when I thought things can’t get any better, the latest firmware 3.10 was recently decrypted! Soon custom ver 3.10 will be out! And a ver3.03 downgrader was also released!

I am not sure what the future will hold for the PSP and homebrew, but I am sure it will be bright!!
